Senators name names with new badges

Joel Henretty wants to make clear he's a senator for the Associated Students of Boise State University - not a bookstore employee.

"I was in the bookstore after a meeting, when a girl came up and asked where some textbook was," he said. "At first I was confused, but then I realized she saw my name tag - and thought I worked there."

ASBSU senators currently wear the same nametags as other Boise State employees. The white plastic placards that dangle from a lanyard are identical in design to those hanging from dozens of non-senators' necks.

Henretty and the other senators hope their new nametags will identify them as members of student government to their constituents. They hope that being identifiable will make students more willing to talk to them about campus issues.

"We want people to recognize who we are and what we're doing. We want to take up their problems and deal with them," Sen. Justin White, who sponsored the bill, said. Read More...
