Molly Helmuth to race triple duty Sept 24th

MOLLY HELMUTH CLOSING SUCCESSFUL 2011 RACING SEASON WITH FIRST LATE MODEL START

SEATTLE (Sept. 19, 2011) — Teenage racer Molly Helmuth is set to wrap up a highly successful 2011 racing season with a very special night at Evergreen Speedway.

On Saturday September 24th, the 16-year-old from Seattle will make her debut in the speedway’s Super Late Model Division of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series in addition to taking part in the season finales of Evergreen’s Mini-Stock Division and the Northwest Pro-4 Truck Series.

“I’m excited about moving up to late models, and a little overwhelmed because I wasn’t sure we would do it this season, but I do think it’s time for that next step,” said Molly. “I’ve learned so much this year, from race lines to communication. Now I can tell my crew what the car is doing on track so they can make it better and faster. I’ve had such awesome support this year, too, from my crew, Roger Habich and Aaron Hoskin, my uncle Rod Helmuth, my parents, other racers and of course the fans.”

Molly, the Mini-Stock Division Rookie of the year in 2010, displayed how much she has grown as a racer this season by setting a new Evergreen Speedway qualifying speed record and earning podium finishes in her race car, race truck and competition go-kart.

On July 30th, Molly set a new Mini-Stock qualifying time of 18.814 seconds on Evergreen Speedway’s three-eighths mile oval, eclipsing the mark of 18.920 set in 2006 by former series champion Mark Weedin.

“Molly has grown tremendously in 2011— quicker than anyone I have ever seen. What she has accomplished this season most people would need two to three years to do,” said Hoskin, a veteran racing mechanic. “If she is put in a competitive car, Molly can succeed against the most experienced drivers at the track. She definitely has earned a lot of respect.”

The qualifying record helped jumpstart Molly’s strong finish in the division and is a testament to her season-long improvement. Over the past six races leading up to Saturday’s finale she recorded an average finish of 5.5 including a third-place result on Sept. 10, compared to her average finish after the first five races at the beginning of the season of 15.4.

“Molly is focused, she is confident and mentally prepared. When her car caught fire on Sept. 3 we thought she was done for the night,” said Hoskin. “But we got the car fixed and Molly went back out there showing no fear and passed cars every lap to the end.”

Molly's goal for 2011 was to earn a podium finish in every series she raced and she accomplished it. She had second and third-place finishes in the NW Pro4 Truck Series, four wins in the Western Washington Racing Association truck division, two third-place results in Gold Cup Rotax Karting and three wins in Rotax Seattle karting club events. Her Gold Cup podiums came at regional events located in the Tri-Cities and city of Sumas featuring the top karters from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Canada.

To celebrate the end of the season, Molly Helmuth Racing will hold a barbecue from 5-9 p.m. on Friday September 23rd for sponsors and fans at the H2 Motorsports Raceshop in Monroe.

Molly’s late-model debut on Saturday the 24th is the next step for her as she continues to develop as a racer, and it is a testament to the quality and depth of assistance she has received from her family, her crew of Habich and Hoskin, and sponsors. Molly will be on the track signing hero cards and giving away MHR key rings and candy during the pre-race autograph session.
