The iPhone as a student ID card?

The iPhone as a student ID card? That may be next at Stanford University, Palo Alto, Calif., which, thanks to an entrepreneurial firm created by Stanford students has already produced a suite of iPhone applications that include the university’s course catalog, campus map and other resources.

Called iStanford, the application suite was rolled out in October and has already garnered national attention, including winning the $10,000 grand prize for AT&T’s “Big Mobile on Campus” contest for best smart phone application. One of the student members of the firm said he would also like to see the iPhone replace student identification cards sometime in the future.
